第一段：女孩(主角)喜歡一個男生，不過男孩們(或欽慕的男生)覺得她太獨樹一格，想挫她的銳氣(try to tame me)，所以對她百般刁難，讓她覺得很沮喪(I'm lying on the floor)。
即使因為他人的話語而遍體鱗傷(cracked door)，要是心儀的男孩接近，她還是會笑容可掬的迎接他( I always wanna let you in)。
副歌：princess doesn't cry 的意思既有「鼓勵女孩要堅強」也有「 在你面前我不會讓你看到我的眼淚」之意。
第二段：(個人推測)心儀之人說了一些重話傷害到她，她挺過這些心痛 (But god made me rough )，她變得更成熟(the crown)，但此次傷害也讓主角下定決心不再隨便讓不珍惜她的人進入她的內心，但是在每次見到男孩純潔無瑕的眼睛總是破功。
第三段：主角真正的蛻變，她痛定思痛，緊閉心扉，但她還是抱有一絲希望，還是有信心迎接下一次悸動。
